What is a Chin Augmentation?
Chin augmentation surgery is a cosmetic procedure to enhance the appearance of the chin. This can be achieved through various techniques, such as chin implants or surgical repositioning of the chin bone. The goal of chin augmentation is to improve facial balance and harmony by increasing the projection or size of the chin relative to other facial features. Achieving a natural balance to a face is paramount when striving for the ideal rejuvenated appearance. Some features of the face can be too prominent or not prominent enough, as in the case of a recessed chin. The tricky part of rejuvenating one’s chin is that it should not draw attention to your face, but rather bring balance and symmetry to enhance the overall attractiveness of your face.
In men, a strong jawline is more ideal and expresses masculinity, while in women the chin should be balanced with the jawline appearing softer and more subtle. Chin implants and chin augmentation are necessary in some patients to achieve symmetry and contour. In other patients, chin reduction can be performed by precisely reducing the size of the bone. Chin augmentation may also be combined with other procedures such as a neck lift or neck liposuction (double chin surgery) to achieve a crisp jawline and neckline. During your consultation, we will use digital computerized morphing technology to analyze your face as a whole and determine realistic goals for surgical or non-surgical chin augmentation.

What to Expect During Chin Augmentation Surgery
Chin implant surgery can be performed under local anesthesia or general sedation and takes approximately one hour. Prior to surgery, you will meet the anesthesia team and likely will be asked to review your allergy and medical history. Most patients go home the same day and return 3-5 days after surgery for suture removal. The incision for chin augmentation is carefully placed in the natural skin crease under the chin so that it is barely perceptible when healing is complete. During your consultation, we will determine if you are a candidate for a chin implant, which is often combined with a rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) and/or neck liposuction (double chin surgery) to help you achieve the most natural and balanced results. We focus exclusively on facial cosmetic surgery and have a combined fifteen years of surgical and advanced fellowship training dedicated to the anatomy of the face and neck.
Why Choose L&P for Your Chin Augmentation?
Facial harmony depends on balanced features, like the chin. A well-defined chin fits nicely with the rest of the face, creating a pleasing look with balanced angles and highlights. Chin augmentation techniques, such as using implants or repositioning the chin bone, can enhance a less prominent chin. Selecting the right candidate for surgery is an important part of every consultation. The overall goal is to create an aesthetic facial balance and bring about natural harmony. To explore options for enhancing your facial profile and achieving better harmony, schedule a consultation with our expert surgeons at L&P Aesthetics.
Am I a Candidate for a Chin Implant Surgery?
Common reasons for seeking out this type of surgery:
- Chin augmentation can complement nose reshaping (rhinoplasty) to bring balance to the face and help to define a patient’s jawline. A small/recessed chin can sometimes make a nose appear larger than it really is.
- Male patients seeking a stronger and more balanced jawline
- Patients seeking a more prominent jawline or cheekbones as weak facial structure of the cheek or chin may detract from other features of the face
- Asymmetry of the jaw
An additional benefits of having surgery with L&P Aesthetics is access to The iO Clinic’s Surgical Recovery Package designed by Drs. Lieberman, Parikh, and Curti. This post-operative recovery protocol enhances your overall recovery, speeds up the recovery timeframe and improves your long-term results.

Natural Rejuvenation with Signature Lift
This patient had out L&P Signature Deep Plane Facelift and Neck Lift with tissue contouring, a lower blepharoplasty, a limited fat transfer, and a chin implant. Yes, that is a handful of procedures, but look at how natural her outcome is. We wanted to focus on maintaining volume while contouring deep tissues for a youthful appearance. She mentioned that not even her closest loved ones know that she got surgery… You can always chalk it up to a good night’s sleep!
Revision Facelift, Neck Lift, Brow Lift & Lower Bleph
This beautiful patient of ours felt like her looks on the outside didn’t match up with how energetic she felt on the inside. She entrusted us with her face and we feel privileged for that honor. She underwent a revision facelift using our signature L&P technique- modified deep plane technique with deep neck contouring, lower lid blepharoplasty, brow lift, lip lift, chemical peel and chin implant.
L&P Facelift & Neck Lift For Full Transformation
Before her surgery this patient felt more self conscious about her presentation. She is naturally such a kind, warm and friendly person. She told us that making the choice to undergo rejuvenation surgery not only changed the way she appears but has made a huge impact on the way she feels about herself.
Chin Augmentation Recovery and Beyond
You’ll be given medication to help you relax. When you wake up your chin will be in a dressing that will be removed 3-5 days after surgery. We work hard with the anesthesiologist to minimize any nausea or pain after surgery. After one to two hours of recovery, you can be discharged from the surgery center with a family member or friend.
Our philosophy is to see you early and often after surgery. So many questions arise in the first two weeks following any surgery that we believe setting up a series of appointments for that time period alleviates any anxiety a patient may have about the recovery process. We will do a careful exam and more importantly answer any questions you may have. A soft diet is recommended for the first 1-3 days after your procedure. Your sutures will be removed four to five days after surgery. We ask our patients to refrain from any vigorous physical activity for 2-3 weeks after surgery.
Chin Augmentation FAQs
Non-surgical chin augmentation is done with the placement of dermal fillers such as Radiesse®, Juvederm® or Perlane®. This can be done right in the comfort of the office and allows patients to provide direct feedback. We utilize the innovative microcannula injection method to reduce bruising and swelling. Using these fillers allows us to bring the chin into better proportions with the rest of the face. The results can last up to one year.
